Shangcun Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The named section is located in Shangcun, Gaozhou, Guangdong. The 130th team of the Central South Coalfield Exploration Bureau named Shangcun Formation in 1956.
Lithology and Thickness
This Formation is gray, gray-black containing organic mudstone, oil-bearing shale mudstone, sandy mudstone, and clayey sandstone, mixed with white impure limestone, calcareous siltstone, oil shale, lignite, and coal. The thickness of this Formation is 354 to 547m. The lithology is relatively stable, thickening from west to east. Sandstone, glutenite, conglomerate, and interlayers increase in Maoming Shange and Dianbaiyangjiao. The thickness varies greatly, increasing from west to east.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The bottom is marked by the appearance of organic mudstone and oil shale. It is in conformable contact with the underlying Late Eocene Huangniuling Fm.
Upper contact
It is in disconformity contact with the overlying Laohuling Fm of late Neogene.
Regional extent
The Formation is only distributed in Maoming Basin, Guangdong.
